WHAT WE DO
Our goal as Registered Massage Therapists is to provide corrective massage therapy to help people to recover from musculoskeletal disorders and injuries; and to help them prevent possible future injuries and disorders.
At City Core Massage Therapy & Neuromuscular Centre each patient is treated on individual needs.
On your first visit, a detailed history and assessment is done to identify the problem; after which, we design a treatment program to resolve your condition.
We use some of the most effective massage therapy techniques for treating injuries and disorders
St. John Method of Neuromuscular Massage Therapy
A type of deep tissue massage that is effective in normalizing tight and injured muscles.
Muscle Energy Technique
For its objective, reproducible testing procedures to locate joint dysfunction, the muscles causing it and the corrective treatment. Improvement is confirmed by retesting.
Joint Mobilization
For its effectiveness in restoring normal joint motion to restricted joints.
Trigger Point Therapy
To release tight muscles and fascia that are causing pain in other areas (known as referred pain).
Positional Release/Passive Release Therapy
Effective in breaking down fibrosis and scar tissue in muscles and increasing their elasticity and returning to normal range of motion.
Hydrotherapy
The use of water in any of its 3 physical states – solid, liquid, gas – to promote healing of injured tissues and return the body and its systems to equilibrium.
Reflexology
Using the zone therapy concept to balance energy flow in the body for systemic equilibrium.
Therapeutic Exercise
Stretches and exercises tailored to your specific condition and needs for rehabilitation. To reduce and prevent the recurrence of the original injury or disorder, helping you get healthier and feel better.

I saw Les on the recommendation of a friend, who had said, “he will fix you”. And he did exactly that! I had pain as a result of over-doing it in a two week fitness intensive. It was unlike any massage therapy I had ever had: at the first appointment, he had me bend this way and that and moved my limbs and torso in particular ways to diagnose what the problem was. He then explained the problem using anatomy charts on the wall and tailored his massage according to his specific diagnosis. I felt better immediately, and was ‘cured’ in two appointments. I would strongly recommend Les to anyone with a sports-related injury or concern.”

I have been going to City Core Therapy and Les Crawford for over 15 years and it has allowed me to continue to be very active, teaching yoga and running. The professional care and treatment has made a huge difference to pursuing activities pain free. “

The reason I keep coming back here is that Les is so focused on solving your medical problem. He asks a lot of questions, understands the issue and then deals with it directly. This has helped me recover far quickly than at other places where it’s one size fits all as they just go through their routine, largely ignoring your input.”

Les Crawford is awesome! I have had back and shoulder pain for years and every time it acts up I go see Les and he sorts me out in a visit or two. Les is a registered massage therapist with a very medical approach to the body.”

I’ve been seeing Les Crawford almost every week for the past three years for the treatment of chronic neck and shoulder pain. What a difference he makes! I always feel so much better after visiting him. I didn’t get the same results from other therapies I had tried (e.g., chiropractic, shiatsu). He’s very knowledgeable and professional. I strongly recommend Les.”

ABOUT US
Les is a tried and true Vancouverite; born and raised in Vancouver. He has worked as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) since 1992 and has thousands of hours of successful clinical experience. He is committed to his patients and his profession.
Les’ interest in the art of healing started with reflexology. When he met his future wife in Germany, where he was also first introduced to massage therapy, he decided to get serious and enrolled at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 1990. Graduating and board licensed in 1992, Les practiced at the Point Grey Massage and Neuromuscular Centre – now Bayswater Neuromuscular Massage – for nearly 4 years with the Neuromuscular Therapy guru Peter Roach as well as working part-time as a teaching assistant and intern clinic instructor at WCCMT. Les found a great affinity to Neuromuscular Therapy and Muscle Energy Technique and how they work together to successfully treat a great variety of conditions. Opening City Core Therapeutic Massage & Neuromuscular Centre in 1996, Les has continued to dedicate his practice to help his patients with the best of his professional abilities through ongoing education and studies. He loves his work and enjoys making people feel better. As a natural teacher, Les has helped his patients to understand the mechanisms of the body and the environment that causes their pain; and through awareness, perception, exercise and stretching, the pain/tension cycle they have been experiencing can be changed.

COVID-19
Hello City Core Massage Therapy patients!
During this Covid-19 period my number one priority is the safety of you, my patients. Following the guidelines of our Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafe BC, I have in place a thorough Cleaning and Disinfecting Procedure and Safety Plan.
These are changes to my appointment timing and physical space. For the present time I will be booking 60 minute and 90 minute appointments only, with 30 minutes between appointments to thoroughly clean and disinfect the treatment room and furnishings. This also greatly reduces your chance of contact with the next patient. Available appointment times are 8:30, 10:00, 1:30 and 3:00; Tuesdays through Fridays.
There is direct access for you to my treatment room via the door #206 from the building hallway. That means spending only your treatment time in my room within the clinic. There are new protocols for booking, billing, arrival and departure to maintain physical distancing wherever possible. I will need your help in following the new guidelines and protocols to ensure that everyone is safe.
Here is how to plan ahead for your in-person appointment:
- Arrive on time. If you arrive early, please remain in your car or in the building lobby by the directory board. When you arrive, text or call me and I’ll let you know when to come up.
- Wear a face mask. It is mandatory for you to wear a face mask when entering the treatment room, I will be wearing one too, as physical distancing is difficult in this confined space. Upon exiting I can provide you with a fresh face mask.
- Sanitize your hands. It is mandatory that you sanitize your hands upon arrival and departure of the treatment room, I will too. I will have hand sanitizer on site.
- Use washroom prior. Use your washroom at home prior to your appointment; the building and clinic washrooms are closed to the public.
- Come alone. A required chaperone is an exception with advance notice.
- Bring what’s needed only. Please leave all extra belongings at home.
- Dress appropriately. Wear only what is needed. Please limit outer wear e.g. coats, scarves, hats etc., as best as possible.
- Rebook appointments by phone, text or e-mail. Please try to minimize your time in the clinic.
- Stay home if you are sick. I will understand if you have to reschedule.
